Palestinian Synia

I have to confess, I don't know the correct spelling for this dish, nor do I even know if it is a real name, but I found the recipe, and it's too easy and good to pass up.

Serves 4
1 lb ground beef
1 can of diced tomatoes
1 recipe tahini sauce (see below)
1 big chopped Onion
1 t salt
lard or olive oil for cooking beef
Pita Bread (scroll to bottom of post for easy homemade pitas!)

1/2 t of each of these spices: turmeric, black pepper, cumin, coriander, allspice.
(Each of which can be replaced with spices like cloves, cinnamon, or dried ginger)

Directions
Saute onion

Add the spices and meat.

Once meat is browned, spread a layer in a square baking pan. Add a layer of tomatoes, and then pour over the tahini sauce to cover tomatoes.

Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes, until the tahini is lighly crusted, changing color and texture.

Serve with Pitas.

Tahini Sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 t sea salt
1/4 c tahini (sesame seed paste, used to make hummus)
1/2 c water
1/4 c lemon juice

Blend or mix all ingredients. If it's too thick, add more water or lemon juice.
